The Iowa Utilities Commission (IUC) issued an order on May 21 approving new water and wastewater rates for Iowa American Water. The company’s rate request was filed on May 1, 2024, and was primarily driven by over $157 million in infrastructure investment in treatment and distribution system upgrades since its last rate filing.

Last week, the Monterey County Superior Court issued its final decision denying attempts by the City of Marina (City), Monterey Peninsula Water Management District (MPWMD) and Marina Coast Water District (MCWD) to overturn the California Coastal Commission’s approval of Coastal Development Permits for California American Water’s Monterey desalination project. The court’s decision affirms that the Coastal Commission acted appropriately and within its authority when it approved those permits in 2022.

California American Water has acquired the Mesa Del Sol water system in the Corral de Tierra area of Salinas. The system was acquired following a project to physically interconnect the Mesa del Sol system with California American Water’s Toro Park system to solve water quality challenges in Mesa Del Sol. The acquisition adds 15 new water connections to the company’s current customer base, which already includes approximately 40,000 connections on the Monterey Peninsula and other parts of Monterey County.

American Water Works Company, Inc. Pennsylvania American Water announced today it has completed its acquisition of the water system assets of East Dunkard Water Authority (EDWA). The newly acquired water system serves approximately 1,600 customer connections in Greene County. Prior to the acquisition, Pennsylvania American Water managed and operated the EDWA system as its receiver following a November 2023 Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) emergency order and February 2024 Pennsylvania Commonwealth Court order.
